Bug Off!
"The performances were fantastic... and I know they will live on for many years to come in the memories of the young performers"
Anthony Toner, Manager, Flowerfield Arts Centre
BUG OFF is a participative children's opera which takes opera to primary schools and brings school children into their local theatre. The title of the piece is based loosely on Franz Kafka's Metamorphosis- a novel about a man who turns into a beetle.
Commissioned by Opera Theatre Company (OTC), Ireland's busiest professional touring opera company, BUG OFF is a forty-minute children's opera for a class of upper primary school pupils and professional Baritone.
Since its first performance in 2004 BUG OFF has toured to 15 small- to mid-scale theatre venues and schools across Ireland, and featured as part of the launch of the Grand Opera House Studio in Belfast in autumn 2006. A new small ensemble version of the opera commissioned for the Smithsonian Folkworks festival will receive its premiere at the Kennedy Centre in May 2007 presented in partnership with Washington National Opera.
