Deazley

Helter Skelter

"Deazley's score is the perfect lure; great rambunctious swells of oompah giving way to wistful, haunting songs of yearning and bewilderment ... an anthem to broken lives, and the lost lonely travellers forever sliding, Helter Skelter."

The Herald

Stephen Deazley's bravura band, Music at the Brewhouse joined forces with writer Dilys Rose (Lord of Illusions / Our Lady of the Pickpockets) to create a dark, macabre, poetic fairy tale for adults. A cast of international talents, physical theatre, circus and cabaret performers inhabited a site-specific staging in the magical spaces of the Hidden Gardens at Tramway in Glasgow, evoking the world of the 19th century open-air down-at-hell fairground, a place of ambiguities and strangeness, freaks and fantasies, thrills, danger, magic and madness, where the boundaries between reality and illusion begin to blur, or become one.

Helter Skelter ran for five nights from 3rd - 8th July 2007 and was commissioned by Tramway with support from the Scottish Arts Council.
