Life's Hard!
"The quintessential Tramway Commission in all its glory - in that it was a daring, risk taking project spanning genres, linking companies and individuals on an international scale, while defiantly rooting its subject matter in Scottish contemporary mythology"
Stephen Slater, Tramway
The inaugural work by Music at the Brewhouse premiered at Tramway in 2004 presented a rogue's gallery of hard men and women from Glasgow's criminal past; a historical romp through an underworld fashioned by the swindler, the gang leader and the misanthrope. It is cabaret at its best, making beautiful music about ugly things. Created in partnership with DoTheatre the dark, comic dance company from St Petersburg, Life's Hard! marked the launch of a very serious and brazenly irreverent international collaboration.
