The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle
"Brewhouse are inspirational. Their quality of their work in terms of music and the way they collaborate with others is consistently high, ambitious and effective. They deliver projects that stretch the imaginations and skills. They open eyes, ears and minds to the possibilities of higher levels of personal and musical achievement."
Joan Parr, Head of Education, Scottish Arts Council
Launched in 2006, The Swindle is a highly successful project aimed at young emerging songwriters, bands and ensembles working across a broad and eclectic range of genres from indie, funk, folk, pop, ambient to high energy thrash for percussion. Each new project offers unique opportunities for local bands to work alongside mentors and professional composers, developing new skills in arranging, orchestration, composition and performance. Lasting between 5-6 months the project culminates with a weekend of intensive rehearsal, performance coaching, recording and a big stage performance alongside 12 members of Music at the Brewhouse. The Swindle has been promoted and co-produced in association with Perth Concert Hall and St. Magnus Festival in Orkney, and will come to The Old Fruitmarket in Glasgow in March 2009.
